HAGARI RWANDA

Community Programs

Over the years, as we have observed and listened to our community, Hagari has developed programs that we believe will set families on the path to Kwigira (empowerment).

MICRO FINANCE

MICRO FINANCE

For people living in poverty, access to credit is hard to come by. To address this gap and help families on their way to financial independence, Hagari offers low interest business loans to members of the community-led savings group.

At Hagari we believe that play is critical to the development of children. Different types of play create opportunities for children to learn different things, express themselves, build confidence, create healthy habits and explore and develop their talents.

ARTISANS

ARTISANS

In an effort to create income for families struggling with poverty, Hagari works with a small group of artisans to develop their talent and assist in access to markets. These mothers make incredibly beautiful baskets from local materials. Their creations are sold both here in Rwanda and in America.

NUTRITION

NUTRITION

Food insecurity is a serious problem for Rwanda’s poorest families and the rates of malnutrition among children are alarming. We know that hungry children are not able to learn and thrive, therefore students in Hagari’s partnership program are provided with breakfast and lunch on school days.

READING

READING

Hagari agrees with Dr. Seuss when he says “the more that you read, the more things that you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” We believe that reading can open doors for children that may otherwise be closed and we want to stir our students to a love of reading which can help them be lifelong learners.
