Aloys Ndayizeye: Founder & Director of Shenge Children’s Organization

Aloys' heart for children with disabilities was birthed out of an experience he had as a young boy. When Aloys was in Primary school he recalls a girl in his class who had a physical disability. She was the subject of jokes and playground bullying. Although she did not have a mental disability, she never finished school, largely because of the misconceptions around her. Years later Aloys discovered that she passed away. This young girl suffered abuse, mistreatment and isolation primarily because of lack of understanding and support offered to her by the society in which she lived. This moved Aloys to compassion and he vowed to help young children who may be suffering in the same way that his primary school friend had. Thus, Shenge Children’s Organziation was born in 2016. Today Shenge serves nearly 70 children with special abilities and their families living in Busanza (a suburb of Kigali Rwanda) and Musanze (in the Northern Province of Rwanda).

"Then Jesus said to his host, 'When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.'"
